Biography

I am Zahra Maher, a faculty member at the University of Isfahan and a sociologist whose research focuses on social and cultural transformations in contemporary Iranian society. One of my main research interests is the sociology of crisis, particularly the social consequences of crises such as the COVID‑19 pandemic, war, and other social risks, and their impacts on social relations, everyday life, and patterns of interaction within society. A significant part of my research also focuses on women, family, and cultural change in the context of broader social transformations and the expansion of digital media. In this area, I examine women’s lived experiences and the ways in which femininity and identity are redefined under new social conditions. My studies have explored topics such as the digital agency of rural women on social media, the redefinition of identity among divorced women, and the transformation of women’s identities and lifestyles in both rural and urban contexts in the digital age. I have also investigated rural women’s experiences of divorce within the context of cultural changes in rural communities and the social implications of these changes for their personal and family lives. Through my articles and research projects, I aim to contribute to a deeper sociological understanding of cultural, gender, and family transformations in contemporary Iranian society. :::
