Abstract

The new metallacycle [PtIMe(CH2)4(dppm)], which contains both methylplatinum and platinacyclopentane groups, has been characterized by multinuclear NMR methods. It exists in solution as an equilibrium mixture of the two possible isomers having the fac-[PtC3] stereochemistry. The chelating (CH2)4 ligand is shown to exert a significantly higher trans-influence than the methyl ligand. Molecular mechanics calculations predict a slight preference for the less symmetrical isomer [Me and one CH2 group trans to dppm] over the more symmetrical isomer [two CH2 groups trans to dppm], in agreement with the experimental observations. © 1991.
