Marital infidelity affects the physical and mental health of couples, especially women. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of compassion-based education on emotional turbulence in women with marital infidelity. The method of the present study was quasi-experimental with unequal control group design. The statistical population of the present study consisted of all women referring to counseling centers in Isfahan with the experience of marital infidelity in 2019, the exact number of which was not available. Thirty patients were selected using purposive non-random sampling and randomly assigned to the control and experimental groups. In order to assess emotional turbulence, a questionnaire on difficulty in regulating emotion was used by Granfsky et al. (2001). Compassion training was performed for 8 sessions of 90 minutes for the experimental group and the control group did not receive any intervention. Data were analyzed by multivariate and univariate analysis of covariance as well as Benferoni test and R software version 4.0.2 (psych, CTT, jmv packages). Findings showed that compassion-based education has a significant effect on reducing emotional turbulence(p <0.05). Therefore, compassionate education can reduce emotional turbulence.

Background: Depression and anxiety are prevalent psychological symptoms among COVID-19 survivors. This study compared the efficacy of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) and Beck cognitive therapy (BCT) in addressing these issues. Methods: Forty-five COVID-19 survivors were randomly assigned to one of three groups: MBCT, BCT or a control. Pre- and postintervention assessments, using the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), were conducted. Both interventions consisted of eight 90-minute sessions. Results: An ANCOVA analysis revealed that BCT was more effective than MBCT in reducing depression and anxiety symptoms. Both interventions led to significant improvements, but no significant differences were observed between post-test and follow-up. Conclusion: BCT is a promising intervention for depression and anxiety in COVID-19 survivors. Facilities providing cognitive therapy should be integrated into healthcare settings to support mental health recovery. © 2024 British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

INTRODUCTION: Making decision for separation from the spouse is one of the crises which are followed by unpleasant feelings such as self-criticism in the people. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of compassion-focused therapy (CFT) on self-criticism of the women applying for divorce. MATERIALS And METHODS: The research design was quasi-experimental with pretest, posttest, and control group type. The population included all the women applying for divorce who referred to an intervention-in-crisis center under the supervision of the organization of well-being in the city of Tehran in 2019. It had the convenient sampling method where the subjects were accommodated into two groups of fifteen women both in the experimental and control groups. The present study had the convenient nonrandom sampling method and the statistical population included 30 women from whom 15 women were accommodated into experimental group and so were 15 in the control group. Sampling method was in available, nonrandom type wherein 15 women were accommodated in the experimental group and so were 15 women in the control group. The experimental group participated in eight 90-min sessions of CFT and the control group did not receive any intervention. Before and after practical experimental administration, both the groups were assessed through self-criticism questionnaire by Smart et al. (2016). The statistical method used in the data analysis was ANCOVA. RESULTS: The results showed that at the error level of 0.5, after controlling the effect of pretest scores as a covariance factor, the mean of the experimental group was significantly lower than the mean of the control group, which shows that CFT approach has been effective in reducing self-criticism. CONCLUSION: As a result, CFT approach can help the people who face the crisis of making decision for divorce and self-criticism to be able to confront this issue effectively and achieve mental health. © 2021 Journal of Education and Health Promotion | Published by Wolters Kluwer-Medknow.

Background: The women’s health guarantees the health of the family and the society. The physical and mental health of the postpartum women is affected and their marital intimacy decreases. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of metacognitive-based intervention on the marital intimacy of the postpartum women in Isfahan, Iran. Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest and control group design. The statistical population of this study consisted of all postpartum women referring to counseling centers in Isfahan in 2019. The sampling method was voluntary and 30 people were randomly assigned to two groups of control (n = 15) and experimental (n = 15). The research instrument was the couples, parents, and colleagues’ intimacy questionnaire (2010). Eight ninety-minute sessions of metacognition intervention were administered for the experimental group. Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) in SPSS software. Findings: The results of data analysis through ANCOVA method showed that metacognitive-based interventions were effective in postpartum women’s marital intimacy. In other words, the mean scores of postpartum marital intimacy in the posttest phase in the experimental group increased significantly compared to the control group after controlling the pretest effect. Conclusion: Metacognitive-based interventions have positive effect on the intimacy and lead to the increase of the marital intimacy in the postpartum women. Therefore, it is suggested to provide facilities for holding the mentioned courses with the cooperation of hygiene and counseling centers to improve postpartum women’s physical and mental health. © 2021, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences(IUMS). Background: Marital adjustment can play a fundamental role in the couples' life. Marital adjustment affects couple's physical and mental health, and increases their ability to cope with the problems and stress-making factors. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to compile the model of some antecedents and outcomes of marital adjustment. Methods: The present descriptive study was of correlational studies with structural equations modeling. The statistical population of the study included all married employees at University of Isfahan, Isfahan, Iran, from whom 172 people were randomly selected and responded to Snyder adults hope questionnaire, Oxford Argyle et al. happiness questionnaire, Busby et al. marital adjustment, Khodayarifard et al. assessment of religious tendency, and the scale of Connor and Davidson's resilience. Data analysis was performed by structural equation modeling using SPSS and AMOS software. Findings: Suggested model of the study had a very good goodness of fit. The results showed the direct effect of religious tendencies, resilience, hope, and happiness on marital adjustment (P < 0.01 for all). Moreover, the results showed an indirect effect of religious tendencies, resilience, and hope on happiness through marital adjustment (P < 0.05 for all). Conclusion: Marital adjustment is a protective factor for physical health and well-being, and a sign of a couple's progress and success. However, the existence of these effects depends on the degree of adjustment between the couple. Therefore, it is recommended to pay attention to variables such as resilience, religious tendencies, and hope, to improve marital adjustment and to create happiness and vitality in life. © 2016 Isfahan University of Medical Sciences(IUMS).
